The Perth Market Authority (PMA) congratulates Smiths Enterprises on its 35th Anniversary on Saturday, 21 January 2012.
The Perth Market Authority (PMA) is the State Government agency that manages and operates the State’s wholesale fruit and vegetable market located at Market City.
"On behalf of the PMA I would like to congratulate Smiths Enterprises, a long term tenant and fresh produce trading businesses, on reaching this milestone anniversary", said Stephen Ward, CEO, PMA.
The State’s fresh produce market first began in Wellington Street in the CBD, but was soon moved to West Perth in 1929, now known as Harbour Town. After almost 60 years of trading the West Perth markets closed and Market City opened in 1989. A number of family businesses moved from West Perth to Market City, such as Smiths Enterprises.
Smith Enterprises prides itself on developing long term relations with growers and buyers.
Founder and Managing Director Cedric Smith works in the businesses and his son Rick Smith and grandson Todd Smith continue the family tradition, trading fresh fruit and vegetables to supply the West Australian community.
"The markets have changed significantly since its operations in West Perth. It’s pleasing to see businesses such as Smiths have embraced these changes and continue to grow and add to the fabric of the market culture here at Market City", said Stephen.
